What to know before you pick your fixed blade
What is a fixed blade knife used for?
A fixed blade knife has a blade that does not fold, which makes it stronger and more dependable than a pocket knife. Fixed blades are the usual choice for hunting, field dressing, camping, bushcraft and heavy cutting.
Which handle material should I choose?
Wood is warm and classic, antler and bone give a rugged natural look, horn is smooth and dark, and resin adds bright one-of-a-kind color. All of our handle materials are fitted by hand, so choose the look you like best.
Should I choose Damascus or stainless steel for a fixed blade?
Choose Damascus if you want the layered pattern and do not mind drying and oiling the blade after use. Choose stainless steel such as D2 or 440C if you want strong edge retention with less maintenance, especially for wet or heavy outdoor use.
How hard are your Damascus blades?
Our Damascus blades are typically hardened to HRC 58 to 60, a range that balances a sharp, lasting edge with toughness. The exact hardness is listed in each knife's specs.
How do I care for a leather sheath?
Keep the sheath dry, and do not store the knife in it for long periods, because leather can trap moisture against the blade. An occasional coat of leather conditioner keeps it from drying out and cracking.
